Remote sensing analysis of spatio-temporal variation of NO2 and PM2.5 during 2005 throughout 2015 over Henan Province |

Abstract We applied the aerosol optical depth (AOD) retrieved from the MODIS satellites and the tropospheric NO2 columns retrieved from the OMI satellite for studying the spatial and temporal distributions of air pollution in Henan Province. The results indicated that high PM2.5 and NO2 concentrations were mainly found in the central and the north areas of Henan province. The seasonal average concentrations of PM2.5 and NO2 were both found to be highest in winter and be lowest in summer. Particularly, the maximum PM2.5 and NO2 concentrations arrived 155.7μg/m3 and 2279.45×1013 mole/cm2 respectively in the winter of 2013, while the minimum PM2.5 and NO2 concentrations were as low as 49.17μg/m3 and 427.37×1013 mole/cm2 respectively in the summer of 2015. The annual average concentrations of ground-level PM2.5 and NO2 over Henan province increased from 2005 to 2011, and then decreased from 2011 to 2015. The annual average concentrations of ground-level PM2.5 and NO2 had been dropped to 65.7μg/m3 and 765.14×1013 mole/cm2 in the year of 2015.
