Incentive effects of marine carbon sink on carbon emission disclosure: An analysis considering purchase price from a game-theoretic perspective |

Abstract To fully leverage the offsetting effect of marine carbon sinks, enhance the quality of carbon emission information disclosure by high-carbon emitting enterprises, and realize the value of marine carbon sinks, the actual role and value of government regulation, media supervision, and the net benefits brought by marine carbon sinks in encouraging high-carbon emitting enterprises to disclose real information were compared and demonstrated using evolutionary game analysis. Additionally, the formation of prices for marine carbon sinks was explored based on differential game theory. The results indicated that strict government regulation and media supervision tended to trap enterprises in an unstable state of decision-making. In contrast, the higher net benefits brought by marine carbon sinks proved to be more effective in maintaining enterprises in a stable state of disclosing real information. Marine carbon sinks were found to possess significant potential in terms of ecological and economic value. Under the premise of fully respecting the market, a reasonable equilibrium price could be formed through government coordination, bargaining efforts, and other means. Moderate regulation, supervision, and a rational price for marine carbon sinks served as powerful safeguards in enhancing the quality of carbon information disclosure by high-carbon emitting enterprises.
