Abstract:A modified CanMETOP model from a regional scale to a global scale was used to simulate the atmospheric transport of g -HCH world-wide with a global gridded g -HCH soil residue inventory for 2005 on a 1o longitude by 1o latitude resolution (approximately 100 km by 100 km) as model input. The total g -HCH residues in global soil in 2005 was 13600t, 72% of which were in the soil of the four regions, including India, China, the former Soviet Union (FSU), and Europe (excluding the FSU). The modeled air concentrations was evaluated by monitoring data published by different research groups, and a good correlation between the monitoring and modeled data validated the good quality of the g -HCH soil residue inventory and the effectiveness of the modified model as well.
