Abstract:Nanoscale iron particles were entrapped successfully in poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) by microemulsion polymerization. The presence of PMMA on the nanoscale iron particle surface was verified by transmission electron microscopy, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and thermo gravimetric analysis, which significantly improved the stability of the nanoiron /PMMA composite particles in air. Batch experiments confirmed that the Fe /PMMA composite particles were capable of effective removal of trichloroethene (TCE). It revealed that degradation of TCE by composite particles well obeyed a pseudo-first order kinetics model.
