Abstract:Effect of NO2- on waste activated sludge waste activated sludge (WAS) hydrolysis and acidification at pH 5.0 and 9.0 with 35℃temperature was investigated. The result indicated that WAS hydrolysis with nitrite addition was enhanced accompanied by the increment of total SCOD and acidic condition was better than alkaline condition for hydrolysis with the increase of time. On the 28th day, the order of total SCOD was B1 (pH=5with NO2- addition) > B2 (pH=9with NO2- addition) > B4 (pH=9without NO2- addition) > B3 (pH=5without NO2- addition). The maximum total volatile fatty acids (TVFAs) in B1, B2, B3, B4 were 4476, 4303, 1350and 2921mg/L, which indicated that acidification was also improved with nitrite addition, and the effect was better at acidic condition. Moreover, the released ammonia nitrogen was decreased significantly under nitrite-added and acidic condition.
