Abstract:Continuous observations of CH4 and CO concentrations were conducted at the Jingdezhen (JDZ) station in Jiangxi Province from December 2017 to November 2018, which was further filtered into background and polluted compositions to better evaluate their seasonal variations and emission sources. Results showed that the seasonal characteristics of both background CH4 and CO were similar with those conducted at Lin’an station in Zhejiang Province, with the minimum in summer and the maximum in winter. Compare with background, the polluted concentration of atmospheric summertime CH4 exhibited strong enhancements above the background values (133.9×10-9) due to the emissions from rice paddies and wetland. Meanwhile, the polluted concentration of atmospheric wintertime CO also exhibited enhancements relative to the background values (227.2×10-9) due to the emission of anthropogenic emission such as biomass burning and heating, which was transported from the northwestern regions. In general, we found the potential emission sources of atmospheric CO distributed in the southeast part in Hubei Province during the whole year, Anhui Province during the autumn and winter, the central Shandong Province during the autumn, Shanghai and Hangzhou during the summer and autumn, eastern region in Hunan Province and Jiangxi Province during the winter by using the HYPSLIT model, among which the contribution of the eastern region in Hunan Province and Jiangxi Province reached up to 53.7%. For CH4, its potential sources mainly distributed in Jiangxi Province, Hangzhou and Nanjing city in Yangtze River Delta, the southern parts in Anhui Province, and the southeastern regions in Hubei Province during the summer, and the central Shandong Province during the autumn. The contribution of the emission from Nanjing, Hangzhou, and the southern region of Anhui Province to the enhancement of the background CH4 concentration was as high as 69.5%. High correlation coefficient between CH4 and CO was found as high as 0.86 and the emission ratio of CH4 to CO exhibited significant variation with low value in winter(0.31) and high value in summer that can be explained by the seasonal variation in the sources and sinks of CH4 and CO(1.06).
