Abstract:The main pathways of carbon-based nanomaterials entering into cells were introduced in this paper, and the analysis of different forms of cell death caused by several commonly used zero-dimensional carbon-based nanomaterials and their potential toxic mechanisms was focused on. The physical and chemical factors affecting the cell death induced by carbon-based nanomaterials were elaborated as well. Finally, the prospects of toxicity study of carbon-based nanomaterials based on our findings were provided in this review, which benefits the design optimization and wider application of carbon-based nanomaterials in the future.
